T-Shirt Design

This is a design for a t-shirt, which both advertised and commemorated our (LTC) Web and Marketing Club’s first “Battle of the Bands” event. I was trying to capture both the excitement of a live band and also harmonize this piece with a poster that another student had already produced. The type for “Battle of the Bands” was created by that student and re-used by me to help achieve this. I shot pictures of and then drew out the guitarist (a fellow student who was actually in a band that competed at the event) using Illustrator, but I primarily used Photoshop. I found the sound wave image on the web, but I made quite a few changes to it.

The gesture of the guitarist; vertical pull of the sound-wave image, visual movement of angular shapes and horizontal flow of the type works together to move the eye into and around the piece with the intention of resting the eye solidly on the date and location after viewing the piece.

Design Bag

This design was developed with the intent to create a luxurious look for a department store bag. It is aimed at women that would purchase perfume, jewelry, makeup or perhaps some special lingerie. I used one of my own watercolor paintings and one of my photographs; I then brought those into Photoshop to create this piece. The logo was taken from the web.

TimeMagw_text-copy
Hurricane Sandy in Time Magazine

This is a Photoshop piece that depicts the devastation of Hurricane Sandy and two other hurricanes that hit the east coast. I was expressing the strength of individuals and families as they face catastrophe together as- “they stand strong”. I was also referencing the history of hurricanes on the east coast (all photography taken from the web).

Apple_Book
Children’s Book

This cover is designed for a children’s book about art with the idea that Apple produced it, hence the “Mac Kid” logo and the apple emphasis. I used imagery to subtly reference both traditional and modern techniques in a fun way using Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign. I created a curve with the type to supplement the feeling of levity and also create a visual bridge to aid in moving the eye around the piece. The painting in the background is a detail of “Sandspit” by Andrew Wyeth.

Cruise Itinerary

This project was created in Adobe InDesign, it is a great example of how to orchestrate a great deal of information in a way that allows the eye to move through the flyer, yet it gives good attention to the assortment of individualized details. The shapes, color and text work together to simulate the feeling of water and collectively they achieve a cohesive piece.

Calendar March

Calendars/ March (above) & April (below)

These two calendar pages were created using InDesign, with some Photoshop work as it pertained to the images. I planned for a warm and thoughtful presentation, which would be primarily marketable to adults for either home or office. This design would be especially appealing to individuals with an interest in literature and/or visual art. Space was incorporated to accommodate for the coil binding and trim, and ample space was included for customers to make notes on the calendar itself to remind them of events.

The image from the March calendar is from Andrew Wyeth’s painting; Wind from the Sea, and the April calendar features a painting by Peter Paul Rubens, titled; Landscape with Rainbow. The authors are noted on the piece itself.

Christmas Card

For many people, Christmas brings with it many memories; thoughts of family, traditions, and often reflection concerning priorities, and I wanted to focus on bringing these enduring qualities to mind when I was designing this Christmas card. I had done a photo-shoot at a historical village and I chose one of my digital photographs, and then textured it in Photoshop to create a warm and inviting impression.

SHRM Recruitment Invitation

The goal of this design was to create an invitation that would attract business professionals in the human resource field, and encourage them to attend the planned gathering, which was intended for the purpose of recruiting additional members. I was aiming at a professional, but also approachable and friendly impression for this piece. I drew the characters in Illustrator and spent a fair amount of time constructing a social interaction scene that would be inviting to both men and women. Through an exploration of pre-existing invitations to business gatherings, I found that they very rarely depicted a male and female shaking hands, and I felt that this was most likely the result of trying to stay away from romantic implications. It is sometimes difficult to make a clear statement about an event that is business-friendly vs. casual friendly, but I believe making the effort to determine that distinction creates a more appealing and inclusive invitation. I used Illustrator for this entire project.

Christinas-World
Ode to Andrew Wyeth

I love the work of Andrew Wyeth and his piece, “Christina’s World” has had me captivated since I was a small child, so when I was asked to draw a house using Adobe Illustrator for a class assignment my mind gravitated back to his painting, where a very personal portrait and a landscape intertwined. This is my rendition of Christina’s home, which is in the background of the original painting.
