The Band Project
The following are pieces from a group project; though all of the art displayed here as well as elsewhere on the site is of my own creation from drawing hearts in the sand on Amsterdam Beach to the photography and Adobe work (unless otherwise noted).
Our group was given the task of branding and coming up with a name for a pop singer, and though I did not create the name or titles, I did create the art and chose the color scheme. We decided to create a teenage pop singer that would appeal to children and teens, but would also be family friendly.
I thought that it would work well to have this new pop star debut with a summer tour and summer theme, this decision affected the color scheme choice and led to imagery that would create a casual and fresh feeling. I used a split (additive) complimentary scheme, which is basically primary blue, it’s compliment, which is yellow and orange and green (on either side of yellow). I used medium to low chroma colors to get a soft natural feel similar to the colors of a sandy beach, water, sky and grass. It was my goal to create imagery that would feel approachable, relatable, but also contemporary.
Products and Product Photography
I created the jump drive above as part of the Band Project (summarized above). The jump drive was conceived as a good promotional item to be given away to prospective fans, it would contain a free song as well as open storage space. I felt that making a custom guitar jump would make it memorable and more likely to be used. I made this prototype using Fimo Clay, and embedded an actual drive into it.
The necklace was made by another student, but I Photoshopped a full color picture into it. The original has a black and white image which you will find pictured in the following brochure. I am showing it here to illustrate my product photography.
For the product photography, I used several backgrounds that worked well with our goals; the necklace above was photographed on a boat-ramp, the jump-drive was pictured on top of a wooden post that was near the beach, and others below (in the brochure) were also placed on a picnic table. This offered a nice range to add interest, yet they all are visually interconnected.
Promotional Brochure
Above is the front and back of a brochure that I created using Illustrator and Photoshop. The design and products pictured were my own work with the exception of the white necklace and the stamp, which was an image from the web. It is a good example of integrating a solid amount of assorted information, while keeping to the color scheme and the theme
Marketing Report Cover
The following was made in Photoshop for the cover of our marketing plan. It was one of four possible covers that I made for this project. I like to experiment with a variety of ways to present work.
Posters
The two posters above are strong examples of the wide breadth of imagery that can be achieved while maintaining a brand or theme. The vertical elements, usage of the peace symbol, different photographs of the same individual and limited palette of both posters help with integrating components of each design. There is also a similar range of dark to light, and a subtle incorporation of the same warm blue into the topmost poster. The typeface used for both posters is “Impact”.
